Ultrasound Scan or Carotid Artery A 15-minute C-IMT Scan Could Save Your Life...
or the Life of Someone You Love.
The C-IMT Ultrasound Scan
A C-IMT ultrasound scan goes beyond cardiac risk factors like cholesterol levels
and blood pressure to show you exactly what’s going on inside of your arteries — down to 1/1000 of a millimeter (1 micron).
What Is a C-IMT Scan?
A carotid intima-media thickness (C-IMT) scan is a highly effective predictor of heart attack and stroke. This scan measures the arterial-wall thickness of your carotid arteries down to 1 micron. In 90% of cases, the arterial wall thickness and the buildup of plaque inside the carotid arteries is also occurring in the coronary arteries of your heart.
Why Should I Get the C-IMT Test?
If the lining of your arteries is inflamed (a condition known as atherosclerosis, the most common form of cardiovascular disease), you may not have any symptoms or warning signs. Plaque can silently build up inside your arteries for years without your knowledge. Often, the first symptom a person with heart disease experiences is heart attack or sudden death. The C-IMT ultrasound scan can detect atherosclerosis and plaque buildup down to 1/1,000 of a millimeter.
How Does the C-IMT Scan Work?
It’s actually pretty simple. The C-IMT ultrasound usually takes less than 15 minutes, and it does not require any special preparation. It is noninvasive (no needles), and it does NOT use ionizing radiation. A C-IMT scan uses ultrasound waves to precisely measure the thickness of the lining of your carotid arteries on each side of your neck. You will also receive a report of your results to share with your doctor.
The C-IMT Ultrasound Scan Costs $189.
